Lesson 8 of 15

Duration: 1:30 [Watch on YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8y_Ui42jOTA)

## In this lesson

Roy uses the colors page of the configuration options to define colors by file type, making all .config files red. With Ctrl-B flattening the folders, the config files are then easy to find, which he finds useful when many files share a name but have different extensions.

[\[00:05\]](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8y_Ui42jOTA&t=5s) Now, let's talk about coloring. One of the nicest features that I like about Total Commander is that you can configure it to show different file types in different colors. For example, if I know that I always want to edit CSR project files or CS files or config files. Let's make sure that all config files have the same color. So, I'm going to go to configuration options and under colors

[\[00:36\]](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8y_Ui42jOTA&t=36s) Here I can change the font color etc. And what I care about is define colors by file type. So, let's add something. Let's say that everything.config and I press okay will have a red color from this moment on. When I press okay and okay again, you can see that immediately packages.config has changed colors. Now let me press CtrlB to flatten all the files so we can see everything.

[\[01:08\]](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8y_Ui42jOTA&t=68s) Let's see if we can find all the config files very easily. And you can see it's very easy to find all config files right now. So that's a very nice and simple way to make your life just easier. Especially if you have a lot of files with the same name and different extensions, it's a very easy way to find them around.
