Lesson 15 of 15

Duration: 2:37 [Watch on YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CTGO9nZDGg)

## In this lesson

Roy splits an ISO file into smaller files with Files, Split file, choosing the size of the parts and the target directory, without an external program. He moves the parts to a new folder with F6, using the star on the number keypad to reverse a selection, then selects the 001 file and uses Combine file, which also does a CRC check.

[\[00:03\]](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CTGO9nZDGg&t=3s) One cool trick that you can do with the Total Commander is the ability to take large files and split them into small files and then recombine them again without needing an external program. All you need is Total Commander in the built-in functionality. Now, I have an ISO file here. I'm in the same folder in both panes. Now, it's a small ISO file. It's for Damn Small Linux, but still I'm going to show you how to split and recombine a file. So what you do is you select the file that you want and you say files

[\[00:34\]](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CTGO9nZDGg&t=34s) Split file and it will try to split the to-do directory on the other pane and you can decide what the sizes are. Now we could since it's only a 50 megaby ISO file here, I'm only going to select the standard U disk discat size, but you could easily do it for any size you want. If you you click tree, what happens is that it shows you all the directories to select from. Where do you want to create the splitted things?

[\[01:06\]](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CTGO9nZDGg&t=66s) But for now, I'll just use this. Click okay. And bam, we have all these files together. Now what if you want to combine them? Well, you see all the files are named. So, you select the 001 file. In fact, why don't I select all these files and create a new folder. F7 splitted. And I'll click left to put this folder on the on the left here.

[\[01:38\]](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CTGO9nZDGg&t=98s) Now let's say I just want to select all the files that look like the ISO. So one way to do it actually is to select the ISO file and then click the star on the num pad. And that actually reverses the selection. So let's select these two things and reverse the selection. This way we have all the files. Now I'm just going to move with them with F6 to the other side. F6. Now we have these two folders.

[\[02:08\]](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CTGO9nZDGg&t=128s) Let's put the splitted in both sides. Now if we want to combine the files, let's just select the file with 001. Click file, combine file, put it in the same folder, and bam. It even does a CRC check to make sure. And we have our file combined. Simple, nice, and easy. May everything in our life be this simple.
