In this lesson

Roy zips files with Alt-F5, where he can choose the packer (zip by default, with an asterisk marking the ones that need an external packer), create a separate archive per folder or encrypt the files. He goes into the new zip file like a folder, renames it with Shift-F6 and unzips with Alt-F6, including several archives at once, each into its own folder. The packing options in the configuration options include treating archives like directories and setting the paths of the archiving utilities.

[00:03] (external link, opens in new tab) Let's talk about zips and unzipping stuff and compressing. Let's say I I have all these files in a folder and I want to zip all of them. Now, I want to zip them and create a zip in the same folder. So, the first thing I'm going to do, I'm going to go up just to make sure I'm in the in the in the current folder. Press control and left. So, I'm in the same folder on the other side and press Alt F5. And alt f5 is the shortcut for compressing stuff.

[00:33] (external link, opens in new tab) So alt f5 will give me this dialogue. And here I can choose what type of packer should I use. And by default it'll use zip but you can choose any other types. You can use 7-Zip. And you see that address asterisk means that you need an external packer installed to be able to use it. So by default you can just use the zip one and you can say give me multiple disk or create a separate archive per folder or directory which I really like.

[01:05] (external link, opens in new tab) Sometimes you can even encrypt stuff by default. I'll just say okay. And what we have now is that in our current folder right also here we have the new zip file. Now the nice thing about compressed files is that you can navigate into them just like they are folders. So I can press enter to go into the file. You can see on the top I can see I'm in a zip file right now. Or I can just press control and left to see the contents of the zip file.

[01:36] (external link, opens in new tab) And as you see in the other pane I'm in a zip file right now. I can also let's say rename the file. So shift f6 will rename the file. Shift f6 again by the way will change the scope. Shift F6 my new folder zip. So I can I can rename files very easily this way. What about unzipping stuff? Well, I can unzip with Alt F6 just like we have Alt F5 to zip, Alt F6 to unzip.

[02:11] (external link, opens in new tab) So let's create a new folder here. F7 unzipped. And I'll press Alt F6. And I have all the options. I can even unpack each archive because I can unzip multiple archives. In fact, let's do this. Let's control C and Ctrl +V multiple types. And now let's say you have all these types located. I can select each and every one of them and I can press Alt F6.

[02:43] (external link, opens in new tab) I can even say unpack each one into a separate folder. I'll press okay. And what you'll see that now I have separate folders each one with the contents of the zip file. Now if you want to change the configuration of the packers again you can go to configuration options and there you have the packing options and you can say oh treat archives like directories and you can say where is the the path of all the various archiving utilities specifically the zip and PKUNZIP and all that stuff.

[03:20] (external link, opens in new tab) So this where you can set all the options that you need to.
